Learning To See

#15. Image Cropping- One of the best suggestions I got from a professional photographer was to try and crop the majority of my images in camera. This meant do the cropping while I’m setting up and taking my shot. That advice has helped me slow down; to really concentrate on what I’m looking at through the lens.

Above is the original photograph by Irving Penn and cropped by Alexander Liberman  (left) with the finished cover (right) for Vogue Magazine, October 1943.
