…Dorothea Lange’s Girl Portrait, Ireland 1954

Most people are familiar with the photographer Dorothea Lange’s impressive black and white images from the Depression. But another, lesser known collection of hers, is compiled in the book ‘Dorothea Lange’s Ireland.’

Sponsored by Life Magazine, Lange and her son Daniel Dixon traveled to Ireland to explore and photograph rural life. She loved the country and its people. In particular, Lange enjoyed taking images of children. She felt they were “…incarnations of the past and prophecies of the future…” I couldn’t agree more.
