Decorating@Nibs- Fireplace Mantels

I thought it would be a fun challenge to do a collection of posts on decorating. Not whole room renovations mind you, but rather smaller, more manageable projects. First up will be a bunch of ideas for decorating fireplace mantels. So…check back as I’ll be posting a new mantel arrangement each week. I hope these will provide lots of inspiration.

Fireplace Mantel Idea #6- Sailing Away

Another option for an unused fireplace is to turn it into a headboard. A twin mattress and low profile box spring fit the dimensions perfectly. The gingham wallcovering makes the white mantel visually pop while displaying a model sailboat and collections of shells & vintage postcards.

1. Gingham wallcovering in blue/white

2. Model sailboat (similar to those used on ponds at the turn of the century) was a birthday gift to my husband

3. Postcards c. 1900-1950

4. Sea shells

5. Vintage linens & white Matelasse coverlet

The pharmacy brass floor lamp is a reproduction of an antique.

A peek at next week’s mantel!

  1. Each mantel is better than the one before. A wonderful example of how many ways there are to look at a space, considering we often feel like we only have one choice. Clearly we’re the ones lacking and not the room!

    1. Linda- Right now I have to keep the mantel white because of the owners…but can you imagine how many more ideas there would be if you could change the color of that too.
