Coming Soon- Decorating@Nibs

I thought it would be a fun challenge to do a collection of posts on decorating. Not whole room renovations mind you, but rather smaller, more manageable projects. First up will be a bunch of ideas for decorating fireplace mantels. So…check back as I’ll be posting a new mantel arrangement each week. I hope these will provide lots of inspiration.

  1. I love this arrangement! I pulled out my fireplace a couple of years ago. It was a controversial choice, but it was a non-working, cheap ply fireplace and I felt forced to orient everything around it, though I thought it was ugly. The only thing I miss about it is that elevated surface to make little vignettes around (especially at Christmas!) Some day I will have a gorgeous fireplace to play with!!

    1. Jane- Glad you like this. Next week I’ll show more photos from the arrangement so you can see what’s on the mantel.

Your comment reminded me of our second apartment. We had a wonderful living room but it needed a strong architectural element…in other words… a fireplace mantel. I found an old one at a salvage yard for $75.00. It was in good condition with multiple layers of paint which I stripped off. It really made a great difference to the feel of the space…plus I loved how I got to move it around to different walls for various looks. :)

  2. I absolutely love this! My mantle is a space I struggle with constantly so I am looking forward to the inspiration you are providing…

    1. Karyn- I think you’ll find some things in the upcoming posts to try out on your own mantel…at least I hope so. :)

  3. Judging by this first picture, I can’t wait. I’m so immersed in the political scene here that I decided to treat myself this morning to some good news by catching up on Nibs. Perfect way to begin my day!

    1. Linda- I just got back from taking some more photos for this series. Talk about fun…I wake up in the morning ready to try out a new idea! Of course my house has been ransacked in the process. Last night my son grumbled wanting his bedside lamp back. I had to explain that it was part of the fireplace picture and promised he’d have it in a day…or maybe two. :)
