Vintage Bakelite Earrings

Hot for spring is bakelite jewelry, especially earrings.  What exactly is bakelite?  It’s the trade name for a plastic invented by Leo Baekeland in 1909 and originally was used to make electrical insulating materials. Later bakelite became popular in the manufacturing of toys, kitchenware and costume jewelry.

Here’s a perfect combination- classic Chanel suit and large tortoise-shell color bakelite earrings.

A similar great pair are from etsy.
