She wasn’t born with a famous name or to famous parents- her father was a carpenter, her mother a waitress for Woolworth’s. Her name was Lesley Hornby. But by 1967 she was the most popular model in the fashion world.
Most models throughout the 1950s were slim, but in 1965 this teenager changed slim to thin-weighing only 92 pounds! She had a very short haircut, applied daily three sets of false eyelashes and a manager that made sure her name became successful. In two short years, fashion designers clamored for her to model their pantsuits and miniskirts.
Her response to her fame:
“Despite all this top model talk, I’m just an ordinary girl.”
Who is she? You probably know her nickname- Twiggy.
