Garden Note #5: Four Leaf Clover

Clover is the name given to several different kinds of legumes that grow wild in fields and lawns. There are at least three hundred known species of clover. Red clover is the most popular. Farmers use it for hay, pasture for animals, and for soil enrichment. Three leaf clovers are common, but to find a four leaf clover is lucky indeed. Statistically, there is one four leaf clover for every ten thousand three leaf clover! As legend has it, the four leaves of the clover represent hope, faith, love, and happiness. And it is said that a woman who wants to marry should hang some on her door. The next man to visit will be her husband!
