Nibs Fashion Photo Shoot #3

Margot and I had been talking for weeks about doing a fashion photo shoot for the holidays. So, last Monday and Thursday…we were able to catch Hope between college classes to model a bunch of fun Christmas party clothing pulled from our two closets.

Shop Your Closet #17

My friends Margot and Hope are joining me in a series of posts called ‘Shop Your Closet.’ The idea is to take pieces of clothing from our three separate wardrobes and put them together in fresh, creative ways. We hope you’ll enjoy these and feel inspired to..shop your own closet!

Remember our guest Ann who sent over some vintage sleepwear for us to use?

Another piece in her closet was this beautiful cotton robe. We couldn’t believe the hand embroidered flowers on the back. (top left photo) Our original plan was to use it as outerwear but we soon discovered it far too delicate for that. The best thing to do was to keep it as a bath robe. However…we updated it with a slim fitting tank top and a pair of boxers. :)

Fashion Details-

Vintage shell pink bath robe- from guest closet

Gray tank top (Gap)- from Margot’s closet

Boxers (Banana Republic)- from my closet

I can’t believe my last post from this series was back in March. The three of us have been busy with other commitments. But we finally were able to clear our calendars last week. We met at my house and stacked our clothing on the dining room table. Then for the rest of the afternoon we had a fun time creating and photographing some outfits.

Here’s our take on the current military fashion trend.

We loved the idea of using my dad’s authentic army jacket with something unexpected like this navy/cream striped dress. Then we tweaked it further by layering a bright orange shirt underneath!

Fashion Details-

Jacket & hat, dress (J.Crew), skinny leather belt (Gap), ankle boots (Union Bay) and Grandpa’s watch- from my closet

Button down shirt (Talbot’s)- from Margot’s closet

Ann, a devoted reader of ‘Shop Your Closet,’ asked us if we’d be interested in using her mother’s vintage cotton nightwear for a few posts. How could we refuse such a fun challenge?! The first piece is a short gown with embroidery on the collar, sleeves and yoke. It’s perfect for a denim shirt and layering a skirt underneath it. We also thought it should be worn with a pair of very quirky shoes.

Vintage night gown- from guest’s closet

Denim shirt (Gap), floral skirt (Liz Clairborne), leather belt (Levi’s) and beaded necklace- from my closet

Dutch wooden clogs- from Margot’s closet

Recall the Laura Ashley tweed suit?

And what we did with the skirt?

Well…the jacket posed a challenge. We definitely didn’t want another skirt. But what then? Once we delved into Hope’s closet, however, we found our answer.

Margot and I discovered Hope’s fun D.I.Y t-shirt! Her hand painted face of a woman in a colorful headscarf is totally unexpected under the classic jacket.  And exactly what we were striving for. All that we had left to do is add some of Hope’s signature accessories- big hoop earrings and a hair extension she nabbed from her older sister.

About Hope

Hope is a wonderful asset to this series. And not just because she does all the modeling. She is young, inquisitive, funny, enthusiastic; and she has her own quirky sense of style. While going through her closet, Margot and I were amazed at her take on fashion. She loves shopping- whether it’s at H&M or at a vintage clothing store. She often reworks things to create her own designs. For this post, Hope wanted to wear her brown jacket and funky orange hat. There were several ideas that the three of us discussed but Hope loved the mix of this one. Take a look-

It’s a Mod World!

Brown jacket, orange hat, hoop earrings, and hair extension- from Hope’s closet

Striped Gap sweater, floral DKNY skirt, handbag, hosiery and Sam & Libby shoes- from my closet

Ring- from Margot’s closet

Note- After we took these pictures Margot’s ring became part of Hope’s closet. :)
