Modern Romantic Stool

Inspiration- Colefax & Fowler floral print fabric covers a modern classic stool designed by Alvar Aalto.

D.I.Y.- Using some left over fabric and a similar stool from Ikea (Frosta, $14.99) I created my own version.

Here’s how-

1. Remove legs from the stool with an allen wrench. Lable them and the stool bottom with numbers so you can easily reassemble it.

2. Cut fabric to fit the stool seat. Leave about 2-3 inch over hang. You have the option to pad the seat with quilt batting. Just make sure to cut the batting slightly smaller than the seat. Take a staple gun and carefully work your way around the seat remembering to keep the fabric tight. Any staples that aren’t flush you can later tap in with a hammer.

3. Remove extra fabric with your scissors. Screw the legs back on.

Garage & Shed Combination

I’ve been looking through numerous magazines, books and online photos for garden shed plans. I want to edit them down to a select few for an upcoming post. However, one idea I can share now is a garage and garden shed combination…something similar to this fun model pictured here for Life Magazine.

I’m not sure how this would work with our existing 1920’s garage but it’s interesting to contemplate.

Paper Craft

Recently, I bought an over-sized muffin at the local bakery and watched as the girl behind the counter placed it into a folded cardboard container. After Curtis removed and devoured the muffin, I took a closer look at the container. I loved the simplicity of the design but thought the exterior was too plain. I decided to reuse it as a pattern for some sheets of printed floral paper from Blick. My new daisy container is light weight…perfect for gifts of money (no coins) or some candy. But if you need it stronger, you could try spray-mounting the decorative paper onto card stock.

Steven Alan- Resort 2012

Our Resort collection…was inspired by the unique atmosphere of Montauk. Driftwood strewn beaches, sun-bleached hues and sea-washed textures were on our designer’s minds as they conjured up a relaxed, playful mood…”- Steven Alan
