For the last several years I’ve hung a pine cone garland from our mantle. But this year I wanted a change- something quick and inexpensive. So…I simply tore out the pages from three old paper back books and loosely folded each sheet. Then I ran florist wire through them… and Voilà! – a garland.

Pssst- Don’t tell my humans about substituting anything for pine cones. One of my favorite holiday activities is to sneak into a basket or table decoration and snatch a pine cone. They’re so much fun to chew. http://www.sandysays1.wordpress.com
Sandy- Ha! How funny! One year I did gingerbread cookies on our tree and our dog was stealing them…:)
This is beautiful Martha!
Jane- My husband almost had a heart attack when he saw me ripping up the books. I had to reassure him they weren’t worth keeping. :)
Ah, wonderful idea! I can put old technical manuals to good use while still having a holiday spirit!
Hey Jared- That’s the creative spirit! :)
I am going to grab a couple of paperbacks out of my library donations pile! Great idea — especially for folks who like art with text on it (Me!).
Linda- Let me know how it turns out. :)
Love it! How unique!
Thanks, Lisa. :)
You can use the book covers as post cards. Came across this site and made me think about your posting here.

Jared- Thanks for the link. I’m curious about the book ‘Playing With Books’ by Jason Thompson that they mention. Time for a trip to Barnes & Nobel. :)
Just found it and loved it.
Tracy- Glad you like this. It’s so quick to make and doesn’t look too holiday-ish. In fact…I’ve left my paper garland up all year. :)
Are the pages joined together in any way, or just folded over and stacked before the wire is inserted?
Hi Elaine- No…the pages are not joined with anything other than the florist wire. Take your sheet of paper and make sure to fold it loosely…then run the wire through each page one at a time. Let me know how it turns out. :)
